Trip Sitting Intro Talk w Mike sq.jpg
This event is hosted by the Psychedelic Society of Minnesota
In-Person at Creators Space AND Virtual Hybrid Event
Event Recording Now Available!

As we progress deeper into the psychedelic revolution, the rising rates of psychedelics being used for healing purposes has created a potent need for responsible individuals to help hold a safe container for that process to unfold. From this harm reduction perspective, this presentation is designed to introduce you to the key tenets of trip sitting: Roles, mindfulness, boundaries, sitting vs guiding, safety, preparation, desired outcomes, aftercare, and more.

All are welcome to this free event, arrive through the Creators Cup Coffee Shop entrance at Creators Space. Look for signs or ask where to find The Flow Studio and say you are with the Psychedelic Society. It's a well-ventilated room with high ceilings that normally holds 50.

The journey to becoming a responsible and experienced trip sitter does not end with knowledge of the techniques. Trip sitting is much more than memorizing the do’s and donts, it takes self-awareness and presence that is only cultivated through the actual experience of sitting for someone in an altered state. That's why on top of our free informational session, we are also offering the opportunity to apply the sitting techniques for someone in an altered state and be sat for under the guidance of trained facilitators. We will be using Stanislov Grof's Holotropic Breathwork technique to mimic the altered state brought on by psychedelics. There will be time to reflect and integrate on the experience from both the sitter's and journeyer's perspective. This paid workshop won’t be hosted by the PSMN, so go here for full details and tickets: https://www.openmindintegration.com/trip-sitting-experiential

About the speakers:

Mike Thompson
I became interested in different approaches for sitting with others in non-ordinary states while volunteering and being trained for Zendo Project at envision festival in 2017. Further harm reduction and community organizing work for those using psychedelics has been a large part of my life since then. I’ve also been a student in Grof Transpersonal Trainings for Holotropic Breathwork and bolstered these experiences with a Vipassana meditation retreat. Outside of the medical model, millions of people around the world will continue to engage with psychedelic substances, with some experimenting for the first time. I believe it is important to empower others in harm reduction and best practices that aim toward holding a space of presence, trusting that these experiences can offer insights to support awakening.

Christopher Gunlock, M.H.S.

I work full time as a psychedelic integration consultant, educator and community organizer. My platform, Openmindintegration.com offers psychedelic preparation and integration services from a harm reduction perspective. I've been exploring and integrating psychedelics like psilocybin, LSD, DMT, 5-MeO-DMT, and ketamine for 15 years culminating in active leadership at the Psychedelic Society of Minnesota. I hold a Masters in Health Sciences for Integrative Medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine and a B.S. in Mathematics at the Maharishi International University where I trained in Vedic philosophy, yoga, Ayurveda, education, and transcendental meditation. I’ve also volunteered for the Fireside Psychedelic Peer-Support Line where I was trained on trip sitting methods by seasoned professionals in the field.
