Trip Sitting Experiential Workshop

Saturday, March 12th 1:00-5:00pm
Sunday, March 13th 11:30am-3:30pm
at Creators Space
Sliding-Scale $60-$120 and scholarship opportunities
Seating limited to 20

The journey to becoming a responsible and experienced trip sitter does not end with knowledge of the techniques. Trip sitting is much more than memorizing the do’s and donts, it takes proper self-awareness and presence that is only cultivated through the actual experience. That's why on top of our free informational session offered through the Psychedelic Society of MN, we are also offering the opportunity to apply the sitting techniques and be sat for under the guidance of trained facilitators. We will be using Stanislov Grof's Holotropic Breathwork technique to mimic the altered state brought on by psychedelics. There will be time to reflect and integrate on the experience from both the sitter's and journeyer's perspective.

What is Holotropic Breathwork?

(This is an excerpt from Grof's Transpersonal Training Website)

"The process itself uses very simple means: it combines accelerated breathing with evocative music in a special set and setting. With the eyes closed and lying on a mat, each person uses their own breath and the music in the room to enter a non-ordinary state of consciousness. This state activates the natural inner healing process of the individual’s psyche, bringing the seeker a particular set of internal experiences. With the inner healing intelligence guiding the process, the quality and content brought forth is unique to each person and for that particular time and place. While recurring themes are common, no two sessions are ever alike."

Holotropic Breathwork is backed by published, peer reviewed research from institutions like Johns Hopkins University.

In addition to this being valuable training for those wanting to reduce harm in the psychedelic community, it is a potent exercise in expanding your own potential to make use of the psychedelic process. Our culture more often teaches us to bottle things up and numb the pain of existence rather than embrace the wisdom of vulnerability. The practice of trip sitting is also the art of nurturing and cultivating these vulnerable states of consciousness. Therefore, this workshop is also a service to yourself and your evolution.

This workshop will be held in the beautiful Creators Space at 218 7th St E, St. Paul, MN on both 3/12 and 3/13 (pick one). It's a well-ventilated room with high ceilings that normally holds 50. There are 20 available spots each day.

Also please consider watching our free "Intro to Trip Sitting" event we did a couple weeks ago as a primer to this event. We will be covering some deeper concepts around trip sitting in this workshop, but it will mostly be the experiential application. The previous event will be a lot more informational material.

About the facilitators:

Mike Thompson
I became interested in different approaches for sitting with others in non-ordinary states while volunteering and being trained for Zendo Project at envision festival in 2017. Further harm reduction and community organizing work for those using psychedelics has been a large part of my life since then. I’ve also been a student in Grof Transpersonal Trainings for Holotropic Breathwork and bolstered these experiences with a Vipassana meditation retreat. Outside of the medical model, millions of people around the world will continue to engage with psychedelic substances, with some experimenting for the first time. I believe it is important to empower others in harm reduction and best practices that aim toward holding a space of presence, trusting that these experiences can offer insights to support awakening.

Christopher Gunlock, M.H.S.

I work full time as a psychedelic integration consultant, educator and community organizer. My platform, offers psychedelic preparation and integration services from a harm reduction perspective. I've been exploring and integrating psychedelics like psilocybin, LSD, DMT, 5-MeO-DMT, and ketamine for 15 years culminating in active leadership at the Psychedelic Society of Minnesota. I hold a Masters in Health Sciences for Integrative Medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine and a B.S. in Mathematics at the Maharishi International University where I trained in Vedic philosophy, yoga, Ayurveda, education, and transcendental meditation. I’ve also volunteered for the Fireside Psychedelic Peer-Support Line where I was trained on trip sitting methods by seasoned professionals in the field.
