Event Details:

These type of eating patterns can have a devastating impact on our bodies, lives and relationships. In addition, efforts to correct these dysfunctional eating patterns can often be to no avail, which can reinforce feelings of self-loathing and despair. And for so many women and men, this very painful, heart-breaking struggle can go on for years, if not decades.

In this presentation, Somatic Psychology Specialist, Lisa Sherrill, MA helps unpack and make sense of this disordered eating mystery, in a whole new light.  She argues that the underpinning of disordered eating patterns is complex. It often arises from trauma, neglect, cultural pressures, biochemical imbalances, spiritual impediments, along with a lack attunement with the body. Thus, a strategy for healing must consider these complexities. Lisa suggests that incorporating proper psychoeducation, along with methods such as Psychedelic Somatic Therapy, combat play, (done safety) such as Jiu-Jitsu, certain types of meditation and other tools, can be applied to help break compulsive and controlling tendencies we have with food.

Lisa's model for recovery is an approach she developed through the process of battling and slowly recovering from her own severely disordered eating patterns. Patterns that left her in a lot of pain physically, emotionally, and spiritually for decades. But this continual, ongoing struggle did force her to look high and low for answers. It pushed her to study many different,  but intersecting fields of research in hopes of a solution. Fields such as Psychedelic Therapy, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Archetypal Psychology, Somatic Psychology, biochemistry and the brain science behind combat play.  Through the weaving together of theories and practices she was able to create an approach that has helped her and many others restore a nurturing and healthy relationship with their body and food.
